"This series is as good to read as it is to look at. A total charmer for the 12-, going on 13-year-old in everyone." Paul Gravett
I'm a great fan of French comic books / graphic novels. They have a style all their own.
This particular gallic tale tels of a young girl and her games-addicted mother, their general lives as well as their love aspirations. It's fluid art matches the pace and character of Lou and co. (including stray cat taken in) and the humour is never in your face but sidles in cleverly, making for a series that's endearing, zany, philosophical and outrageous. Lloyd Pyne, Waterstones
Och här kommer en lite längre recension:
Sum up your imaginary graphic novel reader and you will probably come to the conclusion that they are male and ‘don’t get out much’. This is thankfully becoming the opinion of past. With grand literary awards and the recent emergence of Mr Shakespeare into its hollowed ground the graphic novel continues to earn an ever-increasing amount of respect and attention amongst the literate community. Yet there is a danger that certain genres of readers may well get left behind. The pre-teen audience has certainly felt the brunt of the genres cold shoulder but it is time to relinquish your fears as we catch the escapades of our cartoon heroine Lou.
Lou’s Mum is a writer however she is more comfortable blasting the computer keys of a Nintendo than the typewriter. As both mother and daughter struggle with the draught of their love life’s Lou and her devoted friend dream up all manner of schemes and plans to enjoy a life of ever lasting love. ‘Lou! Diary Dates’ begins the series in delightful fashion. The riotous illustrations accompany a dry yet flirtatious humour so common with the French but so perfectly suited for the pre-teen audience. A tight storyboard which keeps the reader chuckling from one love disaster to the next speaks volumes for its smooth translation from its native French. ‘Lou! Diary Dates’ is a great pioneering graphic novel for the pre-teen market. John Lloyd, Waterstones
Finally a good 'graphic novel' for young girls! The drawings are engaging, and the storyline is very funny and accessible. I thoroughly enjoyed diving into the world of Lou and her mad mum. Annale Smith, Waterstones
